In order to save the trawler of which he is first mate, Sean reluctantly decides to smuggle Chinese immigrants into Scotland for extra money. There's one person Sean doesn't dare tell, though - his father, the Skipper. As the rest of the Chinese hide in the darkness of the hold, a young girl, Su Li, slips away unnoticed below decks, alerting the presence of the immigrants to the slow-witted cook and risking their discovery by the Skipper. As conditions in the hold deteriorate rapidly, Sean must choose between keeping his father's pride and ship afloat, or returning home to certain arrest and foreclosure in order to save the lives of the Chinese immigrants.
