One Million American Dreams

One Million American Dreams

Death is expensive.  But if you die on the wrong side of the tracks in one the greatest cities on earth, the price you pay is even higher.

Hart Island is the largest tax funded cemetery in the world. Since 1869, prison labour has been used to bury over a million unclaimed bodies in mass graves.  It is the final resting place of those who were trampled in their failed pursuit of the American Dream.

One Million American Dreams paints a portrait of the lives and deaths connected to Hart Island and follows the campaign to finally turn New York’s Potter’s Field into a dignified resting place.
