New Writing Development Loans

New Writing Development Loans enable emerging writers, writing teams or writer & director teams to prepare the screenplay for a live action or animated feature film project.

About the Funding

New Writing Development Loans support an emerging writer, teams of writers, or writer and director team to write a live action or animated feature film project from treatment stage. Awards of up to €8,000 for an individual or up to €10,000 for teams of two or more individuals are available.

Development funding is provided by Screen Ireland for the making of films predominantly in English or Irish, or a combination of the two.

Who Can Apply

New Writing Development Loans are available to emerging talent defined as Irish (born or resident in the Republic of Ireland) individual writers, teams of writers, and writer and director teams where applicants do not have a produced feature film or TV credit.

How to Apply
Applicants must consult the Development Funding Guidelines in advance of a submission. Applications which do not meet the criteria set out in these guidelines will be automatically withdrawn. Further details will be announced in August 2019.

Application Requirements

In order to thoroughly assess the further development potential of applications the following documents are required:

  • Logline
  • Synopsis
  • Treatment (6-10 A4 pages excluding images)
  • 25 Sample Screenplay Pages
  • Notes on further development with personal statement
  • Evidence of Ownership of Rights
