Business & Legal is a unique online forum, designed especially for those on the business & legal side of the TV and film industry, to equip them with essential knowledge to thrive in the global marketplace. Each edition gathers the leading experts who share their invaluable experience and strategies in one-hour panels.
The first of the 2025 editions will address financing and deal models for international TV drama and will be held in association with Lee & Thompson. The September edition will explore IP issues facing TV and film producers, including the role of podcasts in the TV and film value chain.
Both editions will dissect the current issues in the TV and film industry, providing the participants with answers to questions of how to navigate uncertain waters.

The day will delve into critical industry topics, starting with the evolving landscape of SVOD deals, where changing commercial terms from major platforms challenge producers to negotiate effectively or adapt creatively. It will then explore the rise of multi-party financing in TV drama, highlighting the increasingly complex funding structures and potential lessons from the independent film model. Finally, the focus will shift to co-production arrangements, emphasizing their strategic advantages and why they are becoming essential for success in the current market.

We examine the increasingly complicated way in which TV drama financing is being structured and look at what we might learn from the independent film model?

A reflection on the key advantages of co-producing in the current landscape, examining the various means by which co-productions can be structured, and key issues to take into account when negotiating with your co-producers.

Gub Neal is an Emmy award-winning producer responsible for the internationally acclaimed and BAFTA nominated series The Fall as well as the French adaptation, Insoupçonnable. His other credits include The Last Enemy, Prime Suspect, Cracker and the Prix Italia winner; Sunday. Prior to setting up Ringside, Gub was Creative Director and founder of Artists Studio and Box TV. Gub was previously controller of drama at Granada TV, as well as head of drama at Channel 4, where he commissioned shows such as Queer as Folk and the BAFTA-winning mini-series Longitude and Shackleton.
This edition will explore the key challenges and opportunities surrounding intellectual property in the entertainment industry. The participants will gain valuable insights into securing rights for adaptations and remakes, protecting original ideas in the streaming era, and leveraging podcasts as a rich source of IP for film and TV projects. This edition will empower creators and decision-makers with the tools and knowledge needed to navigate the complexities of IP in today’s marketplace and the opportunities available.
