Course Profile

Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland and University College Cork are seeking 15 participants for the next intake of the Certificate in Continuing Professional Development in Neurodiversity for the Screen Industry course. This course is facilitated by UCC Adult Continuing Education Department in conjunction with Screen Ireland.

This course comprises two 5-credit modules delivered over a 12-week period starting on Thursday, 25th September 2025. It is designed for screen industry professionals. It is delivered on one night a week (plus two, one-day workshops). Each module comprises of 125 hours of learner effort whereby students will be provided with self-study programme materials online including a number of virtual activities. 21 hours of live online lectures; 3 hours tutorials; participation in two one-day workshops. Self-directed learning to take place throughout the programme through the use of readings, short videos, discussion boards. Guest speakers for workshops to be announced shortly.

The remainder of the programme is completed through self-directed learning, readings and participation in online discussion boards.

Course Objectives

This programme in Professional Development seeks to enhance and develop the capacity of participants to act as Leaders in their respective positions to make their workplace more diversity compliant:

  1. This course is designed to specifically address the needs of the screen industry to be more cognisant of the neurodiverse movement.
  2. It aims to introduce participants to the different ways in which Neurodiversity currently exists in the industry and to make them aware of the history of Neurodiversity, including the different strengths, challenges and conceptualisations.
  3. Focus will also be given to the legal obligations and the practicalities that govern best practice for companies in this area.

Participant Profile

This course is aimed at Producers, Directors, Company leaders, HOD’s, Managers, Supervisors, Teams, and anyone interested in fostering a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the workplace. Screen Industry professionals who wish to expand their skillset to include wellbeing coordination.

UCC Minimum Entry Requirements

Candidates should be at least 21 years of age by 1st January of the year of application and must:

  • Be a screen industry professional.
  • Hold a QQI level 6 or equivalent qualification.
  • English Language Requirement: All applicants whose first language is not English must have attained IELTS Level6 or the equivalent TOEFL score or the equivalent Duolingo score.
Recognition of Prior Learning

In exceptional cases applicants not meeting the above criteria will be considered for entry based on an interview and successfully demonstrating that they hold an equivalent professional qualification in a health and social care setting or practice experience relevant to the course aims and objectives.
