Course Profile

Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland and University College Cork are seeking 14 participants for the next intake of the Certificate in Continuing Professional Development in Wellbeing Coordination in the Arts & Creative Sectors course. This course is facilitated by UCC Adult Continuing Education Department in conjunction with Screen Ireland and Safe to Create.

This course is designed specifically for the arts and creative sector by industry professionals. The course is aimed at any professionals and practitioners working in the arts and creative sectors who are interested in fostering a culture of diversity, equity, inclusion, dignity and wellbeing in the workplace.

It is for professionals and practitioners working in the arts and creative sectors who are interested in learning more about, what wellbeing coordinating entails and how it relates to their sector and practice, what the possible mental health conditions that the learner may come across, what supports and interventions (non-clinical) are available to them, how to put together positive mental health initiatives, understand the policy and legislative context side of the role (covering duty of care, data protection, autonomy, responsibility etc.), how to put together documents (including wellness plans, reports and policy) and how to prepare for the production, organisation or event. 

This course will explore the policy and legislative context and the practicalities that govern best practice for companies and practitioners in this area. The hope is to create a culture in which everyone has the oppotunities to thrive and participate in the arts and creative sectors, with diginity, safely and positive wellbeing at its core.

Course Practicalities 

This course comprises two 5-credit modules delivered over a 12-week period starting on Wednesday, 15th October 2025. It is designed for arts and creative sector professionals. It is delivered on one night a week (plus two, one-day workshops). Each module comprises of 125 hours of learner effort whereby students will be provided with self-study programme materials online including a number of virtual activities; 21 hours of live online lectures; 3 hours tutorials; participation in two one-day workshops. Self-directed learning to take place throughout the programme through the use of readings, short videos, discussion board. Guest speakers for workshops to be announced shortly.

Candidates will achieve the learning outcomes via the assessed components of the two modules as follows:

  • AD1205: Introduction to Wellbeing Coordination
  • AD1206: Developing Wellbeing Coordinator Skills

Course Objectives

The overall aim of this course is to enhance and develop the capacity of participants to act as leaders in their respective positions in the arts and creative industry sector to make their workplaces psychologically safer. The main aims of the course are to:

  1. Understand the policy and legislative obligations, and the practicalities that govern best practice for organisations and companies working in the arts and creative sectors;
  2. Address the specific needs of the arts and creative industries to be more cognisant of the wellbeing of their colleagues;
  3. Introduce participants to the different way in which to support the positive mental health, dignity and wellbeing of their colleagues;
  4. Be effective communicators with all stakeholders in production and the wider organisation;
  5. Develop a ‘wellbeing toolkit’ that contains all relevant information regarding the necessary supports available that are specific to the production set or event.

UCC Minimum Entry Requirements

Candidates should be at least 21 years of age by 1st January of the year of application and must:

  • Be working in the arts and creative sector for at least two years
  • Hold a QQI level 5 or equivalent qualification.
  • English Language Requirement: All applicants whose first language is not English must have attained IELTS Level 6.5 or the equivalent TOEFL score with no individual section lower than 6.0.
Recognition of Prior Learning

Applicants who do not meet the above criteria will be considered for entry based on an interview and successfully demonstrating that they hold an equivalent professional qualification or sufficient practice experience relevant to the course aims and objectives.
