IFTA in association with Screen Ireland is delighted to present a Cinematography Masterclass with Robbie Ryan, two-time Oscar nominated Director of Photography of Poor Things, Marriage Story, The Favourite, American Honey and I, Daniel Blake.
In this IFTA Masterclass, Robbie will share his knowledge and expertise as a leading international Director of Photography, giving insights into bringing a singular filmmaker’s vision to screen, working with the director and other Heads of Department to craft iconic visuals for cinema, shooting on film in a digital era, and sharing tips and advice for up and coming Irish filmmakers and cinematographers.
The event will be moderated by Darren Thornton, IFTA-winning director of Four Mothers and A Date for Mad Mary, and will take place on Thursday, 2nd July 2026, 6.30pm at the Savoy Cinema, Dublin.
Robbie has received acclaim for his Oscar-nominated collaborations with iconic filmmakers including Yorgos Lanthimos on Poor Things, The Favourite, Kinds of Kindness and Bugonia; Noah Baumbach on Marriage Story and The Meyerowitz Stories; Andrea Arnold on American Honey and Bird; and Ken Loach on I, Daniel Blake, Jimmy’s Hall and The Old Oak. His credits also include Philomena, C’mon C’mon, Slow West, Brick Lane and Kathryn Ferguson’s IFTA-winning short Nostalgie.
In addition to his two Oscar nominations, Robbie has won two IFTA Awards, seven Camerimage Awards, a European Film Award, a British Society of Cinematographers Award and two British Independent Film Awards, and received six additional IFTA nominations, two BAFTA nominations, and two American Society of Cinematographers nominations.
