Course Profile

The Irish Society of Cinematographers (ISC) is offering 10 placements on a dedicated workshop for professional Cinematographers, Camera Operators and Camera Assistants interested in learning about the fundamentals of geared and remote head operating.

The workshop will take place in-person on Saturday, 22nd February 2025 and will be led by Camera Operator Tony Kay, ACO. Tony's credits include Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue, Strike, Black Mirror, Killing Eve, Mary & George, Invasion and more.

This workshop will cover the following:

  • Setup of the Arri geared head (balance, wheel position, gears, tilt plate)
  • Viewfinder vs monitor on a geared head
  • Basic exercises on a geared head
  • Working with geared heads on dollies
  • Setup of Ronin remote head
  • Advanced exercises with remote head and geared head
  • Final test shot combining exercises from the day on a dolly/jibarm/remote head shot.

This programme is supported by Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland through the Screen Stakeholders Funding Scheme.

Participant Profile

This workshop is aimed at professional Cinematographers, Camera Operators and Camera Assistants who wish to upskill to learn the fundamentals of geared and remote head operation.

Please note that this workshop is not designed for students or new entrants. Applicants must have working knowledge and experience as part of the Camera Department.
