Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland as part of Section 481 Skills Development Screen Talks is delighted to welcome filmmaker Werner Herzog for a special conversation taking place at the Irish Film Institute on Tuesday, 22nd April 2025 from 11:00 to 12:30.

Werner Herzog was born in Munich on September 5, 1942. He grew up in a remote mountain village in Bavaria and studied History and German Literature in Munich and Pittsburgh. He made his first film in 1961 at the age of 19. Since then he has produced, written, and directed more than sixty feature- and documentary films, such as Aguirre, The Wrath of God (1972), Nosferatu (1978), Fitzcarraldo (1982), Lessons of Darkness (1992), Little Dieter Needs to Fly (1997), My Best Friend (1999), Invincible (2000), Grizzly Man (2005), Encounters at the End of the World (2007), Cave of Forgotten Dreams (2010). He has also published more than a dozen books of prose, and directed as many operas. He currently lives in Munich and Los Angeles.

Werner Herzog will be in conversation with Irish filmmaker Lorcan Finnegan. Lorcan's debut feature film Without Name premiered in  the Vanguard section at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2016. His follow up Vivarium, a surrealist fantasy horror ​​​​​starring Imogen Poots and Jesse Eisenberg premiered in the Critics' Week section at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019. Subsequently, he directed the psychological thriller Nocebo (2022) starring Eva Green and Mark Strong. Most recently, he returned to Cannes in 2024 in the Midnight Screenings section with The Surfer starring Nicholas Cage. The Surfer is scheduled for theatrical release in May 2025.
