Course Profile

This two-day workshop taking place on Wednesday, 11th and Thursday, 12th February 2026 will teach you how to produce professional video and audio content with the production studio in your pocket… your smartphone! Day one will focus on production and day two on editing.

Whether you own an Android or iOS device, you too can join the hundreds of journalists and media professionals around the world who are swapping their expensive cameras and complex editing software in favour of their mobile phones.

Video journalist Caroline Scott will build your confidence in producing your own videos, shooting, and editing eye-catching material for Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and IGTV – as well as broadcast television.

Areas covered include:

  • Navigate your smartphone’s native camera, taking manual control over focus and exposure
  • Shoot and frame interviews, pieces to camera and B-Roll
  • Use external kit for better lighting, audio, and stability
  • Tell a story through interesting shot composition, framing techniques and shot sequences
  • Edit portrait and landscape video for TV, social media, and online platforms
  • Use a variety of apps for creating exciting visuals that you can get started with immediately
  • Confidently use the most advanced cinematic camera app on the market for complete manual control when filming. You’ll learn to adjust your shot’s exposure, focus, shutter speed, white balance, frame rate and more.
  • Shoot broadcast-quality interviews, pieces-to-camera and B-Roll, embracing creative filming techniques unique to smartphone videographers.
  • Edit on multi-track timelines in a variety of frame rates and frame aspect ratios – perfect for complex edits for both long-form TV footage and short-form social media packages.
  • Embrace modern editing styles that engage young audiences
  • Repurpose content for multiple platforms, saving you time, money and stress!
  • Produce social content for 'Stories' using the latest tips, tricks and techniques to engage with audiences... and more

This course is suitable for both iPhone (iOS) and Android users and encompasses hands-on learning, demonstrations, and practical exercises – and time-saving techniques.
