Emissions Reduction

  • Deliveries and collections of materials and equipment should be optimised to minimise journeys and reduce fuel use/emissions.
  • Vehicle journeys should be planned to ensure fuel use/emissions are minimised.
  • Where different vehicles can be used for a particular purpose, please choose the vehicle with the lowest consumption and emissions.
  • Power should be obtained from mains if possible. Where a generator is used it must be right sized for the load. Generators should use HVO fuel where possible. Hybrid battery generators should be considered as they can lead to a 50% reduction in fuel use.
  • Spill kits should be used when refuelling or transferring liquids. The location manager should be notified immediately if there are any spills.
  • Equipment should be switched off and unplugged when not in use.
  • Observe the no idling policy.

Circular Economy

  • Source materials and equipment which have the lowest environmental impact.
  • Place waste food, packaging and materials in the appropriate waste stream.
  • Waste outlets from washing machines should have filters to trap microplastics. Filters should be checked regularly and replaced when required.
  • Waste liquids must always be collected by licenced waste collectors. Consignment notes and NWCPO licence details must be provided to production.

Carbon Calculator

  • Assist the Sustainability Advisor to obtain environmental information from suppliers.
  • Facilitate the collection of data on energy use, fuel use, materials use, transport and waste collections for the carbon calculator.
