Stars Descend on Capital as Production Levels Reach Record High
The last twelve months have seen records levels of production in the capital with stars including Colin Farrell, Eva Green, Jim Broadbent, Brendan Gleeson, Cillian Murphy, Martin Shaw, Brain Cox, Dougray Scott, Stephen Rae and Amy Adams coming to Dublin to work on a wide range of feature films and TV dramas. The films included TRIAGE starring Colin Farrell, PERRIER'S BOUNTY starring Cillian Murphy and Brendan Gleeson, CRACKS starring Eva Green, and LEAP YEAR starring Amy Adams. The TV drama included GEORGE GENTLY for BBC starring Martin Shaw, THE TAKE for Sky starring Brian Cox and FATHER AND SON for ITV starring Dougray Scott and Stephen Rae, and THE TUDORS Series 3 for the Showtime Network, starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers.
These international productions came to Dublin because of the diverse locations the Capital has to offer. The Take, George Gently, Father & Son and The Tudors all used Dublin locations to double for both period and contemporary UK. Cracks used St Columbas College in Rathfarnham to create a British boarding school setting in the 1930's.
All these productions received assistance from members of the FILM DUBLIN Partnership. The coal-face support that this IFB initiative provides is important to ensuring that the foreign filmmakers leave Ireland having had a positive experience.
This international film and television generates significant direct foreign investment, creates valuable employment and promotes Ireland as a tourist destination. The Irish audiovisual industry is valued at over €557.3 million, employs over 6,000 individuals and represents 0.3% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), equivalent in size to Ireland marine sector.
