New Irish Short Musicals Showcase a Host of Emerging Film Talent at the Galway Film Fleadh

The Galway Film Fleadh will be tapping its toes to the sound of musicals next week as the latest slate of Short Shorts films premiere on Saturday July 11th

The Short Shorts scheme aims to provide a platform to encourage new creative voices with distinctive directorial skills and cinematic flair. It was revamped last year when genres were introduced, the first being musicals.  The filmmakers embraced this genre and have come up with some particularly exciting and fun live action and animated films which should make for an entertaining premiere next Saturday July 11th at the Galway Film Fleadh.

David O'Sullivan's MOORE STREET MASALA produced by Miriam Cahill for fishfilms is the first indigenous Bollywood film to be produced in Ireland.  This short love story was filmed in Dublin earlier this year and had members of the public taking part in the Bollywood dance finale mixing the colour of Bollywood with the diversity of modern Irish culture.  David previously won the coveted Best Short Film at the Galway Film Fleadh for Nun More Deadly.

MR. FOLEY stars Mark Doherty (A Film With Me In It) as Mr. Foley, a man who wakes up in hospital to find sound effects him and he doesn't know the score.  It was written and directed by D.A.D.D.Y and produced by Mary McCarthy, with photography by Ruairi O'Brien whose credits include Father and Son which is currently being broadcast on RTE and the award-winning film Five Minutes of Heaven

Other musical shorts to premiere are Michael Lee's animated short THE BIRTH OF ROCK which was written by James Doherty and produced by Peter Cooper for Big Gun Limited, A CLOWN'S REQUIEM directed by Jason Forde and written by Domhnall O'Donoghue and Vanessa Keogh which was produced by Trevor Curran and Four Quadrant Films Ltd and Shane Martin's SEPARATION AGENCY which was produced by Brendan Mitchell for Lucid Dreams Limited.

Another director presenting a short film is Pete Moles with his love story CHAIRS which was co-written by Jon Schachter and produced by Brian Willis for Igloo Productions.  Brian previously produced Little Foxes and co-produced the award winning Eden.  Finally DENTAL BREAKDOWN directed by Ian Power is a musical comedy which stars the comedian David McSavage.  Ian previously directed the successful short film The Wonderful Story of Kevin Kind and is currently in pre-production with his debut feature THE RUNWAY.  Written by Dylan Cotter, the short was produced by Fiona Kinsella for Rocket Productions.

Short Shorts will screen in the Town Hall Theatre on Saturday 11 July at 2pm.
