New Irish Film 'Snap' Begins Production in Cork
The producers of the hit Irish film ONCE, are back with a new Irish feature film SNAP which begins principal photography this week in Cork.
SNAP is the debut feature film from writer/director Carmel Winters and stars award winning Irish actress Eileen Walsh (EDEN, PURE MULE) and THE CLINIC star Aisling O’Sullivan in the lead roles. SNAP assembles a disturbing portrait of three generations of a family trapped in recreating a past that each one denies.
The film will shoot for four weeks in locations around the city of Cork which will benefit from spend on local goods and services, as well as short terms employment opportunities for local crew and extras.
Produced by Martina Niland (ONCE) in Samson Films and co-produced by Cathleen Dore, SNAP is funded by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (IFB), Screen Scene, Accomplice TV & Section 481.
Director Carmel Winters commented 'SNAP affirms the spirit of being human. It's about loving the unlovable, finding our way home to the rag and bone shop of the heart.'
Cork has proved a popular film location in recent years with films such as ONDINE starring Colin Farrell, THE ECLIPSE directed by Conor McPherson which proved a hit at the Tribeca Film Festival recently and the Irish box office hit THE WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY all shooting on location in Cork.
Last year was a record year for film production with over 25 IFB backed feature films going being produced. IFB-funded film and television projects contributed an estimated total of over €75 million to the Irish economy in 2008, showing a significant return on government investment in this sector.
