Irish Documentary A Song For Dad airs tonight on RTE One
San Francisco Irish Film Festival director and Emmy award-winning filmmaker Niall McKay will have his personal documentary, A Song For Dad (also known as The Bass Player), broadcast on RTÉ One tonight at 10.35 pm.A Song For Dad explores Niall's relationship with his Jazz musician father, Jim, who in the 1970s raised his two young sons on his own in Dublin. Scored by Jim's jazz music, this film questions what it means to be a son, a husband and a father.
Produced by Portarlington Multi Media and The Media Factory, the documentary received funding from the IFB, the Arts Council and RTE.
Another Irish documentary Fight or Flight directed by Peter McCarthy and Shane Sutton received impressive ratings when it was broadcast on RTE recently with over 200,000 people tuning in to watch it which represented a 20% share of TV.
