Irish documentary David Farrell - Elusive Moments to air as part of RTE's Look of the Irish series
Irish documentary DAVID FARRELL - ELUSIVE MOMENTS directed by Donald Taylor Black will screen on RTE One on Monday August 10th as part of its Look of the Irish series about Irish photography. The documentary follows two years in the working life of the Dublin-born photographer David Farrell examining his career so far. David is one of the most important living Irish photographers who has contributed mainly to The Sunday Business Post but also to The Observer, The Daily Telegraph and The Independent magazines.
In 2001 his hugely successful exhibition, Innocent Landscapes, dealing with the searches for the so-called "disappeared" from the conflict in the north of Ireland, was first seen in Arles at Actes Sud, after having won the European Publishers Award for Photography. He remains the only Irish photographer to have achieved this honour and the show continues to travel around the world to universal acclaim: from Italy to the USA and from Brazil to China. Farrell is not interested in making a record of events as they are, or in drawing clear conclusions; he believes strongly in photography's ability to bear witness and his is a quest for what he calls "elusive moments".
Shot in Dublin, Wicklow, Cork, Italy and Paris, the documentary shows David taking photographs at various locations in Ireland and abroad, editing and printing his pictures, preparing them for exhibitions, and dealing with the marketplace.
Produced by Donald Taylor Black for Poolbeg Productions the documentary was funded by the Irish Film Board and the Arts Council.
David Farrell - Elusive Moments will air on RTE One on Monday 10th August.
