KISSES selected for consideration for European Film Awards

Lance Daly's KISSES has been announced as one of 48 films that have been recommended for a nomination for the European Film Awards 2009.

The European Film Academy and EFA Productions gGmbH announced the titles of the 48 diverse films from 25 countries.

Written and directed by Lance Daly, KISSES has screened at some of the worlds most prestigious festivals such as the Toronto, Locarno and Telluride film festivals and has won numerous awards such as the Audience Award at the Miami Film Festival and the two IFTA wins (Best Director, Best Editing) at this years IFTA awards.

The film tells the story of Kylie and Dylan, two young children who decide to run away from their dysfunctional homes and spend a night on the streets of Dublin's inner city.  But as the night wears on, and Dublin takes on a darker character, the two kids have to rely on the kindness of strangers, the songs of Bob Dylan and their trust in each other to survive the night.

KISSES was produced by Macdara Kelleher with Fastnet Films (The Halo Effect, Tonight is Cancelled) and was funded by the IFB, Film I Vast, the BCI, TV3 and Zentropa.  It is being distributed by Element Pictures Distribution and Focus Features International is handling overseas sales.

Other films on the list along with Kisses include Anne Fontaine's Coco Before Chanel, Ken Loach's Looking For Eric and Stephen Daldry's The Reader which was co-produced by Irish producer Redmond Morris. 

2,000 members of the European Film Academy will now vote for the nominations in the different award categories over the coming week.s  The nominations will be announced on 7 November at the Sevilla European Film Festival in Spain.

The 22nd European Film Awards and the ceremonial presentation of the winners will take place in Germany's Ruhr Metropolis on 12 December.
