Two Irish Productions Receive 15 Gemini Award Nominations
Two Irish productions THE TUDORS and DEATH OR CANADA have received a total of 15 nominations between them for the 24th Gemini Awards which will take place on November 14th in Calgary, Canada. The Gemini Awards is the Canadian equivalent of the US Emmys and recognizes the year's best in Canadian English-language television.THE TUDORS picked up a total of 11 nominations. Filmed on location in Ireland for the last three years, the fourth series of The Tudors is currently being filmed in Ardmore Studios where Jonathan Rhys Meyers stars as King Henry VIII during his turbulent reign as the King of England.
The series also received five nominations for the Emmys which take place later this month. Both Joan Bergin and Tom Conroy have been nominated for both Gemini Awards and Emmys for their work on the television series. Joan has been nominated for Best Costume Design while Tom has been nominated for Best Production Design in both ceremonies.

THE TUDORS is produced by the Showtime Network in the US, and is co-produced by Morgan O'Sullivan and James Flynn of World 2000 Entertainment. It is an Irish/Canadian co-production.
DEATH OR CANADA, a two part HD Irish-Canadian Famine docu-drama series produced by Tile Films Ltd has also been nominated for four Gemini Awards. It has been nominated for Best History Documentary Program, Best Photography in a Documentary Program or Series (Colm Whelan), Best Sound in an Information/Documentary Program or Series (Allan Fung, Dale Lennon, Steve Moore) and Best Musical Score for a Documentary Program/Series (Christopher Dedrick).
The Gemini Awards take place on 14th November while the Emmy Awards take place on 12th September and 20th September.
