Irish documentary Today is Better Than Two Tomorrows to screen in IFI

Anna Rodgers documentary TODAY IS BETTER THAN TWO TOMORROWS is to screen in the IFI on Sunday 26th September at 12.00pm as part of the Ireland on Sunday series.

Filmed over the course of 4 years in a unknown corner of Laos, South East Asia, TODAY IS BETTER THAN TWO TOMORROWS tells the simple story of friendship between two boys, Leh and Bo, who leave home at age eleven to become novice monks. Gently unfolding like a Buddhist fable, this intimate and meditative film takes us on a journey down the Mekong into a world caught between Eastern wishlessness and Western dreams.

Director Anna Rodgers started this film as a young Irish backpacker who happened upon this family and spent years with no crew or translator determined to bring their enchanting story to life. One of the few documentaries to come out of Lao PDR, Today is Better than Two Tomorrows presents a rare window into a unique and fading culture.

Announcing the screening Anna commented "I'm really looking forward to the screening as part of Ireland on Sunday season. It's a great platform for new Irish work, and I think that Dublin filmgoers will really respond to a glimpse of a much slower, contemplative pace of life. Due to my background of many years as a researcher, it was very natural for me to spend a long period of time working ‘imbedded' within another world. I think I have a natural curiosity about other people's lives, and in Laos I was very passionate about the language and trying to understand the way of life there."

The IFI's Ireland on Sunday is a monthly programme of screenings that showcase recent Irish filmmaking of all disciplines previous to theatrical release, broadcast or gallery exhibition.

TODAY IS BETTER THAN TWO TOMORROWS (with a Q&A session with Anna Rodgers) will be screened at the IFI on Sunday September 20th 2009 at 12.00pm. Tickets can be booked in person, by telephone on 01 679 3477 or online at www.ifi.ie.
