Panel discussion in San Sebastian - How to improve the circulation of European films
With the aim of supporting the wider distribution of European films, European Film Promotion and the San Sebastian International Film Festival continue the programme "European Distributors: Up Next!" scheduled during the festival from September 18 - 21. Eight ambitious distributors coming from smaller European countries have been invited to discuss how to improve the circulation of European films in a complex market mostly dominated by the major studios. The participants have been selected by the associated EFP members and the festival. Financial backing comes from the MEDIA Programme of the European Union. The programme offers various networking opportunities and a platform for discussion. Variety editor John Hopewell will moderate a round table on the distribution situation in the different territories and the strengths and weaknesses of the market as well as national specialities. Jonathan Davis, Strategy Advisor at the UK Film Council, will head the seminar "The role of film festivals for distribution". The programme also includes discussions in cooperation with Europa Distribution focussing on other types of film releases. Sales agents and other film professionals are invited to join selected panels (download schedule here).
