New Irish Feature Film Our Wonderful Home to feature in IFI Ireland on Sunday
Ireland on Sunday, the exciting monthly showcase for new Irish fiction and documentary films, continues with Our Wonderful Home on Sunday 18th October at 1.30pm.
This extreme contemporary fable tells the story of Fred, an anxiety-ridden businessman, his dissatisfied wife Fiona and their manipulative teenage daughter, Emma. They all have secrets - Fred's financial worries, Fiona's affair, Emma's drug- taking and mercenary sexual exploits. When Emma's demands for a new car for her 18th birthday are refused she goes to extreme lengths to get what she wants, making a decision that will ultimately change all their lives forever.
Announcing the event the film's director Ivan Kavanagh said, "Our Wonderful Home is a film about the death of the 'Celtic Tiger'. It was written and filmed during the height of Irelands economic boom. To me, the film seems even more relevant now than when it was made and I am delighted it will be screened as part of Ireland on Sunday in the IFI".
This is Ivan Kavanagh first theatrical feature, which was made with Irish Film Board support, and revisits territory explored in his earlier works. Here he creates a darkly claustrophobic world of profound dysfunction with great skill and assurance, drawing finely nuanced and extraordinarily naturalistic performances from the cast.
Ivan Kavanagh will take part in a post-screening Q&A and is available in advance of the screening.
