Showtime Series 'The Tudors' Wraps Filming on Location in Ireland
The last series of THE TUDORS has wrapped filming on location in Ardmore Studios bringing to a close four years of filming the TV series which has proved a ratings success all over the world.
The series which filmed entirely on location in Ireland has received major acclaim scooping over 17 awards including two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Costume Design for Irish Costume Designer Joan Bergin. Broadcast on the Showtime channel in the US, the first series of THE TUDORS opened to the largest audience ever received by a Showtime series in the history of the channel. The third series is currently airing on BBC2 in the UK and attracted 2.3 million viewers on the first night of broadcast in August 2009.
THE TUDORS starring Irish Golden Globe winner Jonathan Rhys-Meyers focuses on the turbulent early years of King Henry VIII's reign as King of England. A number of Irish directors have worked on the show including Emmy award-winner Dearbhla Walsh (Little Dorritt), IFTA winner Ciaran Donnelly (George Gently).
THE TUDORS has also highlighted some of the Ireland's most beautiful and historical tourist locations including Christchurch Cathedral, Kilruddery Estate, Luggala Estate, the Phoenix Park, Powerscourt, Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin Castle and City Hall to millions of viewers worldwide, providing promotional opportunities for Tourism Ireland to exploit Ireland as a tourist destination.
THE TUDORS is produced by the Showtime Network in the US, and is co-produced by Morgan O'Sullivan and James Flynn of World 2000 Entertainment. It is an official Irish/Canadian co-production.
The series has invested a total of €78 million in Irish goods and services over the last four years and created job opportunities for 1500 Irish crew and 6000 Irish extras during its production in Ireland.
