A Feast Of Irish Films To Watch Over The Festive Season

Christmas tv offers a great opportunity to catch up on some of the best in Irish cinema with Once, Kisses, 32A, Intermission, Kings, Alarm and Gabriel Byrne - Stories From Home just some of the great films broadcasting on television over the festive period.

Pat Collin's acclaimed feature documentary GABRIEL BYRNE - STORIES FROM HOME will screen on TV3 tonight at 10.30pm.  The documentary is a revealing and evocative insight into the life and creative impulses of the Golden Globe winner, Gabriel Byrne.

ONCE directed by John Carney stars Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova in this modern-day musical set on the streets of Dublin which tells the story of a busker and an immigrant, who fall in love over an eventful week, as they write, rehearse and records a number of songs.  The film which won the Best Original Song Oscar will broadcast on Christmas Day on RTÉ 2.

Lance Daly's KISSES has screened at some of the worlds most prestigious festivals and has won numerous awards.  It tells the story of Kylie and Dylan, two young children who decide to run away from their dysfunctional homes and spend a night on the streets of Dublin's inner city.  But as the night wears on, and Dublin takes on a darker character, the two kids have to rely on the kindness of strangers, the songs of Bob Dylan and their trust in each other to survive the night.

Starring Aidan Quinn and Orla Brady, 32A is a heart-warming tale about the ‘in-between' time of the heroine Maeve's life, when she is no longer a child and not yet a woman.  Both KISSES and 32A will broadcast on New Years Eve.

Gerry Stembridge's psychological thriller ALARM broadcasts on 30th December.  It tells the story of a young Dublin woman who leaves the city to start a new life after her father is killed in an attack on her their family home.  But the promised suburban idyll turns increasingly sinister as Molly becomes the victim of what appears to be a violent and personal vendetta. Her life is transformed into a tightening vice of fear as she's gripped by suspicion of everyone around her - her oldest friends, the local handymen and her new lover.
