Irish Cinema at the Cork Film Festival
BSE/IFB backed COWBOYS AND ANGELS, a contemporary story based in the student fashion world, will receive its world premiere at the Cork Film Festival which runs from the 12th - 19th October.The festival will showcase a impressive range of BSE/IFB supported films, documentaries and shorts including the Irish Premiere of the award winning SONG FOR A RAGGY BOY, directed by Aisling Walsh, which is opening the Cork Film Festival this Sunday night. The Irish premiere of MYSTICS, a comedy starring Milo O'Shea and David Kelly, will close the festival on Sunday 19th. HEADRUSH Shimmy Marcus's debut feature is also showing on Thursday 16th.
Irish documentaries being screened include THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE TELEVISED, portraying the 2002 Venezuelan Coup where president Hugo Chavez was removed from power and re-instated 48 hours later. KIAROSTAMI: THE ART OF LIVING, directed by Pat Collins and Fergus Daly, celebrating the work of the Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami will also be screening.
The Irish premiere of this years SHORT CUTS and OSCAILT schemes will be screening on saturday 18th and there is an extensive programme of Irish live action and animated shorts screening throughout the festival.
There will also be special lecture given by Peter Sainsbury, an Australian independent producer who has previously worked for the British Film Institute and the Australian Film Commission, as part of the IFB Intervention Series. This will take place in Jurys Hotel on Saturday 18th at 12.30pm.
