IFTA Nominated ‘Seaview’ to have its Irish broadcast premiere on 10th January

SEAVIEW, the Irish documentary directed by Nicky Gogan and Paul Rowley is set to have its Irish broadcast premiere on TG4 on Sunday 10th January at 12.35am.

The film is about asylum seekers living in a former Butlin's holiday camp at Mosney and gives a unique view into a closed world where people from all corners of the world are waiting in the asylum process for years on end in this bizarre no-mans-land.

Over a three year period, filmmakers Nicky Gogan and Paul Rowley and sound artist Dennis MacNulty spent time living at Mosney gaining unprecedented insight into the lives of this global village of displaced people. The film chronicles the static lives of the centre's occupants as they wait, in some cases for years, for the government to process their claims. The film is a collaboration between award-winning artist Paul Rowley and Darklight Festival director Nicky Gogan. It is the debut film from production company Still Films.

After its premiere at the Berlin Film Festival in 2008 and a very successful tour of the festival circuit, SEAVIEW was nominated in the Best Documentary category of IFTAs (Irish Film and Television Awards) 2009 and also had a theatrical release in Germany.

Director Nicky Gogan says "Every Irish person remembers spending holidays at Mosney and it's incredible to see this familiar setting that still seems to resonate with so many of our pasts now used for a different purpose. The residents of Mosney each have their own story to tell, from the tragic to the heartwarming."

SEAVIEW has screened in festivals all around the world, including:
Berlin Film Festival, Hot Docs, Silverdocs, Sheffield Doc/Fest, Galway Film Fleadh, Guth Gafa, Foyle Film Festival, Rio De Janeiro Festival, Dokufest Kosovo, Sao Paulo Film Festival, Thessaloniki Documentary Festival, Korean International Documentary Festival, Hammer Museum LA and FSK Kino Berlin.

Here are some of the reviews the film has garnered:

'Melancholy but sparkled with poetic moments of beauty and even humour'
Variety

'As far as documentaries go about asylum seekers and the immigration debate, no other is as human and evocative as Seaview'
Sheffield Doc/Fest

'Directors Paul Rowley and Nicky Gogan's approach to storytelling is solemn and innovative. This lyrical and deliberately displacing film captures the irony of a space repurposed and stories of migration put on hold.'
Silverdocs

SEAVIEW will screen on TG4 on Sunday 10th January at 12.35am.
