Irish Oscar Nominated Shorts to Broadcast on RTÉ Two

The two Irish Oscar nominated short films GRANNY O'GRIMM'S SLEEPING BEAUTY and THE DOOR will broadcast on RTÉ Two in the run up to the Academy Awards on March 7th.

THE DOOR, written and directed by Juanita Wilson will screen tonight Monday 15th February at 23.25 on RTÉ Two as part of the Short Screen series.  Produced by Octagon Films the film which is nominated in the Best Short (Live Action) category is based on the true story of a father and his young daughter set in Russia 1986.  The film has previously scooped Best Short Film at last year's IFTAs as well as winning Best Director at the Grand OFF Awards in Warsaw and the Gold Medal Award (Fiction) at the Bilbao International Festival of Documentary and Short Films.  

GRANNY O'GRIMM'S SLEEPING BEAUTY directed by Nicky Phelan and written and performed by Kathleen O'Rourke, is nominated in the Best Short Animation category.  It will screen on RTÉ Two on Oscar night, 7th March at 18.10.  Produced by Brown Bag Films, it has already picked up a host of international awards including Audience Awards at the Omaha Film Festival, US, the Cinegael Festival in Montreal, and at Newport Beach Film Festival in California as well as an IFTA for Best Animation on home ground.  

Both shorts will be screening in more than 100 cities across the US and the UK over the coming weeks as part of an Oscar programme organized by Magnolia Pictures and Shorts International.

The Door will broadcast on Monday 15th February on RTÉ Two at 22.25.
Granny O'Grimm's Sleeping Beauty will broadcast on Sunday 7th March on RTÉ Two at 18.10.
