The Fading Light and His & Hers win at the Dublin Film Critics Circle Awards

THE FADING LIGHT and HIS & HERS have picked up awards at the second Dublin Film Critics Circle (DFCC) Awards which took place at the weekend during the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival.

Ivan Kavanagh's THE FADING LIGHT was awarded the Best Irish Film prize while HIS & HERS, Ken Wardrop's debut feature documentary, picked up the Best Documentary and the first Michael Dwyer Discovery award.

THE FADING LIGHT, which had its world premiere at the festival on Thursday, follows the harrowing story of a family as a mother slips into the last stages of a fatal illness.  It was produced by AnneMarie Naughton for Park Films with funding from the IFB.

Cinematographer Kate McCullough was awarded the first Michael Dwyer Discovery award for her work on HIS & HERS.  Kate, who took part in the Irish Talent Spotlight during the festival recently received the Excellence in Cinematography Award at the Sundance Film Festival with Michael Lavelle for their work on the documentary also.

Produced by Andrew Freedman with funding from the Irish Film Board, HIS & HERS explores women's relationships with men by visiting moments from the lives of 70 female characters. 

Other Dublin Film Critics Circle winners were the Australian film Samson and Delilah as Best Film; Best Actor (Male) went to Patrick O'Donnell, for his role as a special needs adult in The Fading Light; whilst Best Actor (Female) went to Tilda Swinton for her role in I Am Love.
