IFB BACKED PROJECTS RECEIVE OVER 70 IFTA NOMINATIONS

DUBLIN (13 Oct 2003): Bord Scannán na hÉireann / the Irish Film Board (BSÉ/IFB) is pleased to announce that 24 projects it has co-financed have scooped over 70 nominations in this year’s Irish Film and Television awards which take place in Dublin on November 1st.

Projects backed by BSÉ/IFB, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, scored 71 nominations including five out of the six nominees in the Best Irish Film category. (THE ACTORS, DEAD BODIES, INTERMISSION, SONG FOR A RAGGY BOY and CHAVEZ-INSIDE THE COUP).

In addition, it co-financed five out of the seven Best Documentary nominees (BANG!-YOU’RE DEAD, CHAVEZ-INSIDE THE COUP, LIVING THE REVOLUTION, OILEAN THORAI and SING ON FOREVER)

In total, BSÉ/IFB backed projects garnered over fifty percent of the total nominations with multiple nods in the Best Director, Best Script, Best Animation and Best Short Film categories.

BSÉ/IFB co-financed feature films such as local box office hit INTERMISSION led the way with eleven nominations, followed by SPIN THE BOTTLE with eight and GOLDFISH MEMORY and DEAD BODIES both receiving six nominations each. “That such a wide range of projects received so many nominations is a testament to the talent we have in the Irish filmmaking sector”, said BSÉ/IFB CEO Mark Woods. “We wish all the nominees the best of luck on the night ”.
