Irish Documentary Horses to Broadcast on RTÉ

The Irish documentary HORSES, written and directed by Liz Mermin, will broadcast tonight on RTÉ One at 10:15pm.

HORSES follows three promising, charismatic horses over the course of one rather difficult racing year.  Beautiful, unusual, and highly entertaining, the film combines the drama of a sports movie with the exploration of an ancient human obsession, offering a subtle critique of humanity's quirks on the side.

It was broadcast on BBC4 last Thursday 11th March to much critical acclaim, recording the highest viewer ratings for a documentary within the BBC Storyville Strand.

It was an official selection at the Sheffield International Documentary Film Festival last year, who said it "...represents an evolution in documentary's approach to character and a filmmaker's manifold relationship to their subject. It's not just a great film; it's a step in a fascinating direction."

This challenging documentary was produced by Aisling Ahmed for West Park Pictures and was co-financed by the IFB, RTÉ and BBC Storyville.

HORSES will be broadcast on RTÉ One on Tuesday 16th at 10.15pm.
