Two Irish Documentaries Officially Selected for Hot Docs

Two Irish feature documentaries HIS & HERS and HORSES have been officially selected for Hot Docs 2010, the Canadian International Documentary Festival which takes place from April 29th - May 9th.

Directed by Ken Wardrop, HIS & HERS is a beautiful and innovative film that combines observation and imagination to illustrate a universal love story.  Produced by Andrew Freedman with funding from the IFB, the film explores women's relationships with men by visiting moments from the lives of 70 female characters.

Since premiering at the Galway Film Fleadh last year where it picked up the Best Irish Film award, the film has won numerous awards such as the Audience Award at this year's Jameson Dublin International Film Festival, the Best Documentary Award at the Dublin Film Critics Circle Awards and the Best Cinematography Award at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival.  It recently screened at the renowned SXSW festival in Texas.

HORSES, written and directed by Liz Mermin is a documentary which follows three promising, charismatic horses over the course of one rather difficult racing year.  It played to great acclaim when it had its theatrical run at the ICA in London and received the highest rating share ever in the BBC Storyville strand when it broadcast on BBC4 earlier this month.  The film also won rave reviews from Irish critics when it aired on RTE last week.  Produced by Aisling Ahmed for West Park Pictures, the film was co-financed by the IFB, RTÉ and BBC Storyville.

Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival is North America's largest documentary festival. Each year, the festival presents a selection of more than 100 cutting-edge documentaries from Canada and around the globe. Through its industry programmes, the Festival also provides a full range of professional development, market and networking opportunities for documentary professionals.
