Irish Short Animation Donkey Officially Selected for Oberhausen Festival
The Irish short animation film Donkey has been selected for screening at the 56th Oberhausen International Short Film Festival in the Children's and Youth Film Competition in Germany.Donkey, which was written and directed by Louise Bagnall, tells the story of a donkey who is sick of his minimum wage job at the beach. It was produced by Niamh O'Donoghue for Barley Films and was funded through the Frameworks short scheme, which is financed by the IFB, the Arts Council and RTÉ.
Donkey has already been hugely success on the festival circuit having previously screened at the Galway Film Fleadh and Cork Film Festival as well international screenings at the Sichuan TV Festival in China and the Cairo International Film Festival for Children in Egypt. It was also awarded the Best Short Animation at the Darklight Film Festival.
Previous Irish screenings at the Oberhausen film festival include Ken Wardrop's creative documentary His & Hers, as well as his short film Useless Dogs which received a Jury Special Mention.
The 56th Oberhausen Short Film Festival will take place from April 29th to May 4th.
