Continued Success for Irish Short Films at International Film Festivals
Irish short films have continued in their success on an international level with Mike Ahern's Mr.Foley picking up Best ‘Sound-Scape' Award at the Dresden International Short Film Festival while David Freyne's The Mill, has been officially selected for competition at Palm Beach International Festival and at Huesca International Film Festival.
Mr. Foley, stars Mark Doherty (A Film With Me In It) as a man who wakes up to find his every move sound-tracked live in front of him. Therefore the film winning the award for best soundscape is very apt.
The dark comedy was produced by Mary McCarthy for Red Jam Productions and was financed through the IFB Short Shorts funding scheme. It made its premiere at last year's Galway Film Fleadh and was one of 38 films from over 2,000 submitted selected to compete at Dresden International Short Film Festival.
The Mill, is a psychological horror story which centres on a family camping trip that takes an unexpected turn when a young boy, Declan, awakes in their tent to find that he is entirely alone.
Produced by Rory Dungan and Rachel O'Kane for Tilted Pictures Ltd; it was funded by Filmbase and RTÉ and received print provision support from the IFB.
The Mill has been officially selected for competition at both the Palm Beach International Film Festival in Florida from 22nd-26th April and also at the Huesca International Film Festival which takes place in Spain from 4th-12th June.
