Two Awards for Irish Language Shorts at Cork

In a history-making first, OCRAS, a Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board supported film has beaten English language contenders to win the UIP Best Live Action Short at the 48th Cork Film Festival.

Director Sean Maguire’s OCRAS took home the UIP prize while CIORCAL, the debut short by Simon Fitzmaurice picked up the Jameson Award for Best Short.

Both Irish language shorts were funded as part of BSE/IFB’s Oscailt scheme with Irish broadcaster TG4.

“This is a historic achievement for Irish language filmmaking and a wonderful acknowledgement of the importance of BSE/IFB supported entertainment in popularising Ireland’s first language”, said BSÉ/IFB CEO Mark Woods.
