Irish feature SNAP chosen for Variety Critics Choice at Karlovy Vary
Irish feature film SNAP written and directed by Carmel Winters has been selected to screen at the esteemed Karlovy Vary Film Festival in the Czech Republic in July. It is one of ten films that have been hand picked to screen as part of the Variety Critics Choice section of the festival which spotlights new European films by young directors.Chosen by Variety critics in conjunction with EFP members and the festival, SNAP will be introduced to the press and will be presented at the festival with a special screening.
The film, which recently screened at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York last month, examines the disturbing story of three generations of a family trapped in recreating a past that each one denies. Produced by Martina Niland for Samson Films with funding from the IFB and Screen Scene, the cast includes Aisling O'Sullivan (The Clinic), Eileen Walsh (Eden, The Magdalene Sisters) and Mick Lally (The Secret of Kells).
The festival is one of the oldest and most important international film festivals in Central and Eastern Europe and will screen over 200 films from all corners of the globe. It is open to the public and is visited by thousands of cinemagoers.
Last year the Irish feature film EAMON directed by Margaret Corkery picked up the prestigious Independent Camera Award at the festival when it screened in the Forum of Independents programme.
