Bobby Farrelly and Nicole Holofcener confirmed for Give Me Direction

Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board, in association with the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival, is delighted to announce that major US filmmakers Bobby Farrelly and Nicole Holofcener will take part in this year's GIVE ME DIRECTION screenwriting conference.

As previously announced, this year's conference will focus on the theme of comedy; together Lenny Abrahamson (Adam & Paul, Garage), Sharon Horgan (Pulling, Angelo's) and Pat McCabe (Breakfast on Pluto, The Butcher Boy) are curating the event which will run in Dublin on Thursday 17th and Friday 18th of June.

As ‘One of the Farrelly Brothers', Bobby Farrelly has said "when we were beginning screenwriters, we used to write what we thought that [studio executives] wanted to read. At then at some point, we said, you know what, we better start writing for ourselves --what we think is funny, what our buddies at home might laugh at. When we made that switch, our screenplays got a lot better."

Starting out as a salesman of round beach towels, Bobby then went on to co-write and co-direct such dubiously enjoyable and hugely influential films as Dumb & Dumber, Kingpin, There's Something About Mary, Me Myself & Irene, Shallow Hal, The Ringer, and Stuck On You. He will participate in a public interview with Lenny Abrahamson.

Nicole Holofcener, who will be appearing in conversation with Sharon Horgan, is one of the finest writers of funny, flawed, peculiar, particular characters working today, and her credits include Walking & Talking, Lovely & Amazing, and Friends With Money.

Amanda Peet, one of the stars of Nicole's most recent feature Please Give, had this to say about her: "She deals with very serious issues but always with humour, and somehow without calling attention to her own profundity."

Tickets for this two day event can be purchased for €50 each. Details of the full line up, further guests, where the event will take place and how to purchase tickets will be announced later this week.

GIVE ME DIRECTION is proudly supported by IADT National Film School and Huston School of Film and Digital Media.
