Irish feature film TRAFFICKED in cinemas now

The Irish feature film TRAFFICKED written and directed by Ciaran O'Connor, opened in select Irish cinemas last Friday.

TRAFFICKED, which stars Ruth Negga (Breakfast on Pluto, Isolation) and Karl Shiels (Eden), tells the harrowing story of a young Africa girl, Taiwo, who is smuggled into Dublin, hoping to start a new life.

Taiwo soon finds she is trapped in the seedy world of drugs and enforced prostitution, and makes a desperate bid for freedom. However she is hunted down by a petty thief and conman, Keely, who on kidnapping her, decides to tell nobody of his catch and brings the girl home. An unlikely and at times naive relationship develops between a victim and a perpetrator that is based on economic necessity and ultimately emotional fragility.

Here are what the critics have been saying about TRAFFICKED

"A bold effort in Irish film-making" -  "Negga steals the show"
The Sunday Business Post

"Trafficked is the closest Irish cinema has come in many years to a bona fide film noir... its subject matter is timely, and indeed timeless... diehard noir fans will revel in an ending that pulls no punches."
Declan Burke, Irish Mail on Sunday

"An admirable effort by an Irish film-maker seeking to take on a relevant subject and turn it into a human story that is by turns disturbing and moving."
Susan Morrell, Sunday Business Post

"It was entertaining, it was a thriller, and I was gripped by it. Superb performances."
Pat Coyle, RTE's The View

"Captures the sense of desperation and realities of life at the bottom"
Harry Guerin, RTE Entertainment

"It is a breath of fresh air to see this kind of work...Trafficked is incredibly sad, it is gritty, it is dirty and it deals with the kind of world none of us would ever like to end up in. However, it is also beautiful and captivating. A must-see."

TRAFFICKED was produced by Nuala Cunningham, Ciarán O'Connor and Linda Cardiff for Stoney Road Films and New Decade, with Simon Hudson (Behind the Desert Wall) as Executive Producer and was financed by the Irish Film Board.

It can be seen in selected cinemas including Cineworld, Parnell Street, The Screen in D'Olier Street, Dun Laoghaire, Rathmines, Cork Omniplex, Mahon and Galway Omniplex.
