Irish feature The Fading Light to be Released in Belfast Cinema
The award-winning Irish feature The Fading Light, directed by Ivan Kavanagh, is to be released in The Queen's Film Theatre in Belfast for one week from Friday 11th June.
The Fading Light is a harrowing study of a family in crisis. Returning home to their widowed and dying mother, two estranged daughters become reacquainted with a house full of difficult memories. Their brother, disabled and dependent, faces an uncertain future and his predicament tests the sister's affection and empathy. The turmoil created by this approach of death intensifies the relationships, and an already fragmented family slides towards disintegration.
Produced by AnneMarie Naughton for Park Films, this fierce and chilling story had its world premiere at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival in March, where it picked up the Best Irish Film award at the Dublin Film Critics Awards as well as Best Actor for Patrick O'Donnell. It also garnered lots of press attention with its exclusive run in the Irish Film Institute earlier this year and has been officially selected for the Pusan International Film Festival in Korea in October.
Shot with a lucid intimacy by Kavanagh's regular cinematographer, Colin Downey, The Fading Light boasts brilliant performances from a cast which includes Valene Kane, Emma Eliza Regan, Bibi Larrson and Patrick O'Donnell.
The film was funded by Bord Scannán na hÉireann/ the Irish Film Board.
It will be preceded by the short film Atlantic, written and directed by Conor Ferguson and also produced by Park Films. The intense fast-cutting drama stars Liam Cunningham as a lonely farmer in the 1960's.
The Fading Light can be seen in The Queen's Film Theatre in Belfast from Friday 11th June.
