Irish Animation Miss Remarkable & Her Career Wins at Major Animation Festival in France
The Irish animation Miss Remarkable & Her Career picked up the Fipresci Award at the 50th Annecy International Animation Film Festival which took place in France over the weekend.
Miss Remarkable & Her Career (Fröken Märkvärdig & Karriären) which had its world premiere at the festival, was written and directed by Joanna Rubin Dranger and produced by Jeremy Purcell of A Man & Ink. The darkly humorous story depicts Miss Remarkable as she struggles with her inner demons, crushing parental expectations and rising above a career meltdown. She fails to become 'strong, the best and happy' but finally realises what she really wants for herself - she wants life!
The animated tale was the first co-production project for Galway-based company A Man & Ink, who co-produced with partners Lisbett Gabreilsson Film AB (Sweden) and Bullitt Film (Denmark). It was co-financed by the IFB, Swedish Film Institute, Danish Film Institute and Nordisk Film & TV Fund.
The jury at the festival said that the Irish animation was "Remarkable! So we can really relate to the heroine in the film we chose as our winner. And it's with great pride we say: we all loved Miss Remarkable and her Career!"
The renowned Annecy Animation Film Festival, which is the world's largest event focusing entirely on animation, took place from 7th-12th June.
