Tv Series The Tudors Nominated for Four Emmy Awards

The multi award-winning US television series THE TUDORS has received four nominations for the prestigious Emmy Primetime Awards which will take place in Los Angeles next month.

THE TUDORS, which stars Irish actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers as Henry VIII, focuses on the turbulent years of his near 40 year reign as the King of England and has been shot on location in Ireland over the last three years.

IFTA-winning Joan Bergin is nominated for Outstanding Costumes for a Series for her work on the costumes designs for the fourth year in a row, twice of which she won, as well as nominations at last years American Costume Designers Guild Awards.

Production Designer Tom Conroy (Breakfast on Pluto) has been nominated for Outstanding Art Direction for a Single Camera Series, for which he has twice previously been nominated as well as picking up several IFTA nominations.

Ousama Rawi (Ben Hur), the Director of Photography on the series, has been nominated in the Outstanding Cinematography for a One Hour Series having scooped the same prize at last year's awards while Dee Corcoran (Leap Year), the Head Hairstylist is nominated for Outstanding Hairstyling for a Single Camera Series.

Dublin-born actor Micheal Gambon has also been recognised for his performance in the BBC co-production Emma, with a nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie while the Irish composer David Downes has been nominated for Outstanding Music Direction for Celtic Woman:  Stories from the Heart.

THE TUDORS is produced by the Showtime Network in the US, and is co-produced by Morgan O'Sullivan and James Flynn of World 2000 Entertainment. It is an official Irish/Canadian co-production and is co-financed by the IFB, Showtime and Peace Arch Entertainment.

The fourth and final series of the major US television drama was shot last year in Ardmore Studios and used locations in the surrounding areas and is currently airing on TV3 every Monday at 10pm.

Simon Perry, C.EO of the Irish Film Board said "These nominations are a testament to the high esteem in which Irish film talent is held internationally.  It's the fourth consecutive year in which The Tudors has been nominated, reinforcing the Irish film industry's reputation for both creativity and professionalism and adding further credence to Ireland as a leading base for world class television productions such as Camelot and A Game of Thrones."

The Emmy Awards are considered one of the most prestigious international awards for television entertainment and are regarded as the television equivalent to the Academy Awards for film.

The 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards takes place in Los Angeles on Sunday 29th August.
