Upcoming Festival Screenings for Irish Talent

It's a busy month ahead for Irish talent on the international festival circuit as Conor Horgan's debut feature One Hundred Mornings has been officially selected for the Rhode Island International Film Festival, Colm McCarthy's Outcast, has been chosen to screen at horror film festival Film4 Frightfest, while Promise and Unrest, directed by Alan Grossman and Aine O'Brien, will be screening at the DMZ DOCS Korean Documentary Film Festival.

One Hundred Mornings is set in a world upended by a complete breakdown of society, where two couples hide out in a lakeside cabin hoping to survive the crisis.  Produced by Katie Holly for Blinder Films, it has garnered critical acclaim since it premièred at the Slamdance Film Festival earlier this year and has gone on to screen at festivals across the globe including Cannes, Seattle and Perth.  The film was funded by the IFB's Catalyst Project.

Rhode Island International Film Festival is a world-class event featuring screenings, filmmaking workshops, meet-and-greet industry events and seminars, providing a showcase for international features, documentaries and shorts.  The festival takes place in New England from the 10th-15th August.

Outcast, starring James Nesbitt and Kate Dickie, follows the story of Mary and her son Fergal who are on the run from Cathal, a dangerous and terrifying man, who is intent on tracking down and killing them.  Produced by Brendan McCarthy and John McDonnell for Fantastic Films (Ireland) and Makar Productions (U.K), the film had its world premiere at the renowned SXSW Festival in Texas in March of this year and has also screened at Edinburgh Film Festival.  It was co-financed by the IFB, Scottish Screen, Bankside Films and Headgear.

Film4 Frightfest is the leading fantasy and horror film festival in the U.K and is considered the highlight event of the year for horror fans, having previously premièred world-famous horror films including Scary Movie (1&2), Cabin Fever, Eden Lake and Wolf Creek.  The festival will take place in The Empire Cinema, Leicester Square in London from the 26th-30th August.

Promise and Unrest is an intimate portrayal of a migrant woman Noemi Barredo, who came to Ireland from the Philippines in order to find work, and captures the way she copes with long-distance motherhood while assuming the responsibility of sole provider for her family back home.  Produced by Alan Grossman, Aine O'Brien and Barrie Dowdall for FOMACS and funded by the IFB and The Atlantic Philanthropies, this moving documentary had its world premiere at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival earlier this year.

This is the second year of the DMZ DOCS Korean Documentary Film Festival, which pioneers diverse and innovative documentaries and will take place in Paju City, from the 9th-13th September.
