Irish language short film Nollaig Shona, the directorial debut from Orla Murphy, is set to screen in Times Square at the first ever open-air programme as part of the New York City International Film Festival this weekend on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th August.
Nollaig Shona tells the story of when Alan's girlfriend walks out on him on Christmas Eve, he plunges into denial, reassuring himself and the twelve-foot-tree that "she'll be back any day now". Imagine his surprise when the tree seems to answer... Over the Christmas period, a surreal relationship unfolds between man and tree.
Produced by Freya Mackenzie for Vico Films in association with Princess Pictures, this black comedy was funded through the Oscailt scheme which was co-financed by the IFB and TG4. It stars Sean MacDonagh, Áine Ní Dhroigneáin (Ros na Rún) and Eamonn Hunt (Happy Ever Afters).
Writer/Director Orla Murphy, who will be attending the screening, commented "To have an Irish film, in the Irish language, screen in such an iconic location is a huge honour. I hope the audience enjoys it along with all the other fantastic films from around the globe".
