IFB Funded Shorts to Screen on Opening Night of ShortSpace in Filmbase This Week
Juanita Wilsons Oscar-nominated The Door and Hugh O'Conor's Corduroy will screen in the first programme of ShortSpace in Filmbase this Thursday night.
ShortSpace is a new scheme which enables filmmakers and film fans to network and to gather together, screen a variety of short films based around a specific theme or topic as selected by Filmbase and to discuss short films and short filmmaking. It will take place on the first Thursday of every month in Filmbase with the first one kicking off at 7pm on Thursday 2nd September.
The films selected for the first Shortspace are all first short films from a number of Irish filmmakers, including the Oscar-nominated The Door by Juanita Wilson, which is based on the true story of a father and his young daughter set in Russia 1986 and was funded through the IFB and RTÉ Short Cuts scheme, Hugh O'Conor's Corduroy, which tells the moving story of a young woman with autism, and was produced as part of the IFB's Signature scheme. Also showing are The Crush, directed by Michael Creagh, The Confession, directed by Thomas Hefferon and An Cosc, directed by Vincent Gallagher and written by Hugh Travers.
Hugh O'Conor, Juanita Wilson and Vincent Gallagher will be in attendance on the night to discuss their experiences of making their first short film.
In order to open up ShortSpace to the widest range of Irish short films, Filmbase is calling on filmmakers to submit their short films for consideration for future instalments. ShortSpace is open to all forms of short film including drama, animation, experimental works, music videos, documentary and everything in between. Please visit www.filmbase.ie/shortspace for details on how to submit your film.
So whether you're a fledgling filmmaker wondering how to get your first film off the ground or you're a seasoned professional who's interested in passing on your expertise then come along to ShortSpace at Filmbase!
