Irish Doc Pyjama Girls Goes on Cinema Release from 17th September

If you missed out on seeing the documentary Pyjama Girls in the IFI last month, now is your chance to catch it again as it goes on release in select cinemas nationwide from Friday 17th September.

Directed by Maya Derrington, Pyjama Girls examines the phenomenon that began in Dublin and spread far and wide, in a society that seems increasingly hard to shock at least when it comes to fashion, public pyjama-wearing in Ireland stands out as a statement that still generates controversy, often viewed as a uniform of anti-social behaviour.  The documentary slips behind the confrontational facade to provide an intimate portrayal of Lauren and Tara, two teenagers from Ballyfermot.

Produced by Nicky Gogan for Still Films and financed by the IFB, Pyjama Girls had its world premiere as the opening film at the IFI Stranger Than Fiction Festival in April and recently sold out its week-long run at the Irish Film Institute in Dublin.  The Irish Times referred to the film as "smart and an absolute hoot" while Film Ireland commented that "...it had the audience transfixed from beginning to end."
