Dearbhla Walsh is an Irish TV and film Irish director with over 20 years experience. Last year, she won an Emmy for her direction of the BBC's multi-award nominated Charles Dicken's Little Dorrit, adapted by Andrew Davies. She has directed the BAFTA winning Shameless, Funland and Custer's Last Stand Up. She was cited by the industry bible, Broadcast Magazine, as one of the Top Ten Drama directors in the UK. She recently directed The Silence, a 4 part thriller which was broadcast on BBC1 over the Summer.
Participant Profile:
This workshop is aimed at emerging and experienced drama directors.
Course Description:
This workshop aims to strengthen participants' drama directing skills. As well as getting an insight into Dearbhla's approach to directing, participants will also work in small groups to direct scenes, with actors.
This workshop is limited to eight participants.
Areas covered will include:
- How to guide an actor's performance on the set
- Spatial visualization of the scene
- Blocking scenes -The camera as the 3rd character
- How to communicate your vision
- Dealing with particularly difficult scenes e.g. love and violence.
