James Nesbitt picks up Best Actor Award for Evil Role in ‘Outcast’

Irish actor James Nesbitt has scooped the Best Actor award at the 9th annual New York City Horror Film Festival for his role in Colm McCarthy's gritty chiller OUTCAST.

The weeklong horror festival takes place at venues throughout New York City and has grown to be a world recognised event with filmmakers and press in attendance from around the globe.

Outcast, which also stars Kate Dickie, follows the story of Mary and her son Fergal who are on the run from Cathal (Nesbitt), a dangerous and terrifying man, who is intent on tracking down and killing them.  The film has been receiving critical acclaim since its world premiere at the renowned SXSW Festival earlier this year.  Its latest review in Bizarre Magazine named it the ‘Film of the Month' and says that the excellent acting performances along with the teasing drip-feed of facts and heavy emphasis on ambiguity allowing viewers imaginations to run riot, results in a film that is ‘one hell of a calling card for first-timer McCarthy'.

Produced by Brendan McCarthy and John McDonnell for Fantastic Films (Ireland) and Makar Productions (U.K), the film was co-financed by the IFB, Scottish Screen, Bankside Films and Headgear.  The film is scheduled for release in Irish cinemas before the end of the year.
