Ruairi Robinson Set to Direct UK Film ‘The Animators’ & Rights Optioned for Cecelia Ahern’s ‘Where Rainbows End’
Oscar-nominated Ruairi Robinson is set to direct his feature debut film ‘The Animators' , a sci-fi thriller in the UK, while bestselling author Cecelia Ahern's second novel ‘Where Rainbows End' has had the film rights optioned by Constantin Film, who are best known for the successful Resident Evil franchise.Irish director Robinson is highly regarded for sci-fi short films, receiving an Oscar nomination in 2001 for the IFB-funded short Fifty Percent Grey, as well as The Silent City, starring Cillian Murphy (Inception, The Dark Knight, Intermission) and Don Wycherley (My Brothers, Perrier's Bounty) and more recently Blinky TM, which follows a murderous domesticated robot starring Max Records (Where The Wild Things Are).
‘The Animators', which tells the story of a crew of astronauts picked off one by one by a malevolent force, is highly anticipated having recently received six votes on this year's Brit List of eagerly awaited screenplays. The film is set to be produced by Qwerty Films, the production company behind The Duchess and will begin shooting early next year.
This is the second novel for Irish author Cecelia Ahern to acquire film rights as her previous bestseller ‘P.S I Love You' was also adapted for the big screen and starred Hollywood heavy-weights Hilary Swank and Gerard Butler.
‘Where Rainbows End' will be produced by Simon Brooks (White Noise) through Canyon Creek Films alongside Robert Kulzer of Constantin Film, who is currently on production on 3D project ‘The Three Musketeers'. Martin Moszkowicz, also of Constantin Film, will serve as executive producer.
Ahern's novel centres on two childhood best friends, Rosie and Alex, who grow up together watching each other muddle through tempestuous relationships, sticking by each other through thick and thin. When Alex is forced to move to America, their friendship takes on new tests and eventually evolved into love. The book is an international best-seller.
