Latest Successful 'Reality Bites' Film Awards Announced

Following a remarkable year for BSÉ/IFB short films, we are delighted to announce the latest teams for the ‘Reality Bites' short documentary scheme have been selected.

This is the fourth round of the ‘Reality Bites' scheme, which aims to encourage experimentation and the realisation of fresh approaches to non-fiction filmmaking. We received over 40 applications to the scheme and the following four teams have been awarded funding for their projects:

  • Within 3 Miles to be written by Patrick Bolger, directed by Tom Burke and produced by Shane Hogan
  • Joyriders to be directed by Ross McDonnell and produced by Morgan Bushe
  • Quarantine to be co-directed by Tadhg O'Sullivan and Feargal Ward and produced by Pat Collins
  • Home Turf to be written and directed by Ross Whitaker and produced by Aideen O'Sullivan

This latest batch of Reality Bites scheme boasts a great mix of interesting filmmakers with a wide range of experience between them.

Tom Burke and Shane Hogan previously worked together on the feature documentary The Liberties, which was selected for the IFI Stranger than Fiction Festival last year and has since been broadcast on RTÉ1.

Morgan Bushe produced one of last year's Reality Bites projects Collaboration Horizontale, as well as a host of other feature hits including The Runway, Nothing Personal and Colony, which was directed by Ross McDonnell.

Pat Collins, who is no stranger to the Irish film industry, most recently directed the critically acclaimed Gabriel Byrne-Stories from Home

Ross Whitaker and Aideen O'Sullivan previously co-directed and co-produced Bye, Bye Now, a short documentary about the extinction of the phone-box, which has bagged a number of prestigious awards at festivals including Silverdocs, Edinburgh and IFI Stranger the Fiction.

The Reality Bites shorts will premiere at the Corona Cork Film Festival 2011.
