Hollywood Star Glenn Close Excited to be in Dublin for New 'ALBERT NOBBS' Shoot
With the cameras set to roll this Monday, Hollywood actress Glenn Close has revealed it was her dream to shoot new feature film ALBERT NOBBS in Dublin and has welcomed the support of the IFB/BSÉ, describing it as a "wonderful partnership".
Speaking about being in Dublin, Close said "At one point we were thinking of filming in Hungary, eastern Germany, Montreal in Canada. We've been all over the place but I'm really happy that we're here because this is where it should be."
Directed by Rodrigo Garcia, ALBERT NOBBS stars Glenn Close as a woman caught in an unusual love triangle. Passing as a man in order to work and survive in 19th century Ireland, some twenty years after donning men's clothing, she finds herself lost in a prison of her own making. The film will shoot for seven weeks in locations around Dublin and Wicklow.
The film also boasts the home-grown talents of Brendan Gleeson (The Guard, Harry Potter, Perrier's Bounty), Jonathan Rhys Meyers (The Tudors, August Rush) and Maria Doyle Kennedy (The Tudors, Tara Road) alongside an international cast including Janet McTeer (Into The Storm), Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland) and Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass).
The script has been adapted by Close, along with Man Booker prize-winning novelist John Banville and Gabriella Prekop, from a short story by Irish author, George Moore. Close previously won an Obie Award for playing the Nobbs character Off-Broadway in Simone Benmussa's theatrical interpretation of Moore's short story, "The Singular Life of Albert Nobbs."
Close is also producing the film with Steven Spielberg's long-time producer Bonnie Curtis (Jurassic Park: The Lost World, Saving Private Ryan, Minority Report), Julie Lynn (Nine Lives, The Jane Austen Book Club, Mother and Child), and Alan Moloney from Dublin-based production company Parallel Films (Neverland, Treasure Island, Breakfast on Pluto). Finance was provided by Bord Scannán na hÉireann / Irish Film Board and WestEnd Films is handling international sales.
