Screen Training Ireland and Galway Film Centre holding Draughting course
Fás Screen Training Ireland in association with Galway Film Centre are running a Draughting course for Art Department in January 2011 in Dublin. It will be tutored by IFTA winning production designer, Anna Rackard and Emmy Winning art director, Colman Corish.
This course is aimed at trainee and assistant art directors who wish to bring their draughting skills to an intermediate level. Beginners, who will preferably have some Art Department experience, will complete a nine-day course. Participants who have already completed the Foundation Draughting Course and others who have basic draughting and/or surveying skills may join the course on either Day 3 or Day 4. From then on, the course will allow for different abilities/levels of competence in the tasks set.
Areas covered will include interpreting a designers sketch, an overview of studio layout, camera angles, scenic backings, floating walls, safety issues and requirements of other departments and awareness of the built environment and an overview of historical styles. The course will be mainly project based.
Anna, who won an IFTA for her role as production designer in Ondine, has also worked as production designer on Inspector George Gently and Rough Diamond. She has worked as an Art Director on Leap Year, The Butcher Boy and Ella Enchanted and Supervising Art Director on King Arthur and The Escapist. Colman Corish has worked on numerous films and television series over the last fifteen years, including Angela's Ashes, King Arthur, The Honeymooners, Lassie, The Tudors and Camelot. This year he was awarded an Emmy for his work on The Tudors.
