Two Irish Projects Included in Screen’s Hot 50 for 2011

Screen Daily has released its international preview of 2011 and Irish feature film ALBERT NOBBS and Irish-Italian co-production THIS MUST BE THE PLACE were named as two of the Hot 50 Films for 2011.

Screen's International Film Preview 2011 looks at 50 non-US films which are scheduled for delivery this year, from the most rarefied arthouse titles to those with the broadest commercial ambitions.

ALBERT NOBBS directed by Rodrigo Garcia is currently in production in Dublin.  Starring Glenn Close, Aaron Johnson, Brendan Gleeson and Jonathan Rhys Meyers it tells the story of a woman pretending to be a man in ultra-conservative 19th century Ireland.

Paolo Sorrentino's THIS MUST BE THE PLACE stars Sean Penn as an ageing rock star who hunts down the Nazi responsible for his father's execution in a concentration camp.  The film which shot on location in Dublin last summer also stars Frances McDormand and musician David Byrne.

Albert Nobbs

Albert Nobbs' script was adapted by Glenn Close, along with Man Booker prize-winning novelist John Banville and Gabriella Prekop, from a short story by Irish author, George Moore.  Close previously won an Obie Award for playing the Nobbs character Off-Broadway in Simone Benmussa's theatrical interpretation of Moore's short story, "The Singular Life of Albert Nobbs."

Close is also producing the film with Steven Spielberg's long-time producer Bonnie Curtis (Jurassic Park: The Lost World, Saving Private Ryan, Minority Report), Julie Lynn (Nine Lives, The Jane Austen Book Club, Mother and Child), and Alan Moloney from Dublin-based production company Parallel Films (Neverland, Treasure Island, Breakfast on Pluto).  Finance was provided by Bord Scannán na hÉireann / Irish Film Board and WestEnd Films is handling international sales.
